Assam: Major Drug Bust in Guwahati Nets Heroin Worth ₹2.2 Crore, One Arrested
Guwahati: Guwahati witnessed a significant blow to the illicit drug trade as the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police successfully recovered a substantial quantity of heroin, estimated to be worth ₹2.2 crore in the illegal market.
The operation, conducted in the Sawkuchi area of the city, resulted in the apprehension of one woman who is now facing legal proceedings.
Acting swiftly on credible intelligence inputs, a dedicated team of STF personnel executed a targeted raid in Sawkuchi. Their efforts yielded the recovery of 278.28 grams of high-grade heroin. In addition to the contraband, the authorities also seized ₹1,49,500 in cash and a mobile phone from the possession of the arrested individual. These seizures are crucial pieces of evidence in dismantling the drug trafficking network.
The successful operation drew immediate commendation from the highest office in the state. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to acknowledge the achievement of the STF. He lauded the team for their relentless dedication and effectiveness in the ongoing battle against the pervasive narcotics problem plaguing the region. His concise message, “STF strikes hard…Well Done team! #AssamAgainstDrugs,” underscored the government’s firm stance against drug trafficking.
Presently, the arrested woman is undergoing thorough interrogation by the investigating authorities. The focus of the ongoing investigation is to delve deeper into the intricate web of individuals involved in this illegal activity.
The STF is diligently working to trace the origins of the seized heroin and to identify and apprehend other members of the smuggling network, aiming to dismantle the entire supply chain. This latest success highlights the continued commitment of Assam’s law enforcement agencies in their fight to eradicate the menace of drugs from the state.
