Assam: Major Fire at Silchar Computer Coaching Centre, One Injured
Guwahati, 18th May: A significant fire erupted in a building in Silchar town’s Shilangpatti area on May 18, severely damaging a computer coaching centre and injuring one girl. The incident caused panic as students scrambled to escape the blaze.
The fire broke out at the IIT Computer Coaching Centre, which occupies four storeys of the affected building. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started suddenly around 11 a.m., quickly spreading and trapping students inside the facility. Panic ensued, leading to chaotic scenes as several students jumped from the rooftops to nearby buildings to save their lives. Fortunately, many students escaped unhurt, but a girl sustained injuries from a fall and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Twenty fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze, which took several hours to bring under control. The fire gutted all belongings within the coaching centre. According to fire department officials, cooling operations are currently in progress to prevent any flare-ups.
The incident underscores the urgent need for fire safety measures in educational institutions and high-rise buildings. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the full extent of the damage.
