Assam: Major Haul of Explosives Seized in South Salmara-Mankachar; One Arrested
Assam: Police in the South Salmara-Mankachar district, Assam, conducted a successful raid on Sunday night, leading to the recovery of a significant cache of explosives in the Amtenga region of Barbilla.
Acting on a credible tip-off, a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Pratap Das launched the operation in Amtenga. The raid resulted in the seizure of 760 explosive sticks, 400 CDET ALFA detonators, and other related materials.
The explosive sticks were found packed in 38 white polythene bags, each containing 20 sticks. Additionally, 400 CDET ALFA detonators and 125 CDET ELECTRA immediate electric detonators were recovered, along with 55 bundles of blue explosive wires, three bundles of electric wires in different colors, and six white cement packets. Tools commonly used in explosive operations, such as scissors and cutters, were also seized.
One individual, identified as Ijazul Miah (40), a resident of Amtenga village, was arrested in connection with the seizure. During preliminary questioning, Miah revealed that he had purchased the explosives from an individual named Sangma on Saturday for a sum of Rs. 70,000.
Miah is currently being held at the Kalapani Police Station for further interrogation.
The police are investigating the origin and intended use of the explosives. Authorities are also working to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in this illegal explosives operation.
