Assam: Major Heroin Seizure in Naharkatia; 3 Held
Guwahati, 22nd September: In a significant development in the ongoing battle against narcotics, Assam Police scored a major victory on Friday by seizing Heroin worth approximately Rs. 3 crores. This operation was carried out jointly by the Naharkatia Police and Joypur Police, under the vigilant supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Naba Bora.
The operation took place in Joypur, where law enforcement officers intercepted a WagonR car bearing the registration number AS06 AJ 5275. Inside the vehicle, they discovered 29 soap boxes containing a total of 348 grams of Heroin. The narcotics were reportedly being transported by three women from Arunachal Pradesh, who had allegedly smuggled the illicit drugs from Dimapur, Nagaland, via train. Their intended destination was their home state.
The seized Heroin is estimated to have a market value of around Rs. 3 crores. Following the operation, the police arrested the three women and the vehicle’s driver. A case has been registered at Joypur Police Station under sections 21(C) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the seizure.
This successful operation is yet another milestone in Assam Police’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect communities from the harmful effects of illegal narcotics.
