Assam: Major Narcotics Bust Nets Two in South Salmara Mankachar
Guwahati: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the South Salmara Mankachar district police successfully intercepted a substantial quantity of narcotics in the Rajabala Bhalukkandi area this morning, April 19th.
The meticulously planned operation resulted in the apprehension of two individuals believed to be involved in the illegal drug trade.
The breakthrough came following crucial information relayed by a vigilant member of the Village Defence Party (VDP) from Kolabari.
Acting swiftly on this intelligence, a dedicated police team, under the watchful guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Pratap Das, launched a targeted raid.
Spearheading the operation was Inspector J.S. Khobung, the Officer-in-Charge of South Salmara Police Station, who was accompanied by Sub-Inspector Kaushik Dutta and a contingent of other dedicated police personnel. Their concerted efforts at the scene yielded a significant haul of illicit substances.
Among the seized items were 2000 Yaba tablets, carefully packaged in 10 blue packets and weighing a total of 210 grams with their wrapping. Authorities also recovered 3 packets of heroin, totaling 73 grams with packaging, along with 18 vials containing 31 grams of heroin including the weight of the vials.
The operation also led to the confiscation of two mobile phones and a Yamaha FZS motorcycle bearing the registration number AS 18M-8093, allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
At the location of the raid, police apprehended two individuals who were allegedly in the process of trafficking the seized narcotics.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Yad Ali, a 24-year-old son of Kurpan Ali and resident of Rajabala Bhalukkandi, and Somer Ali, a 36-year-old son of Saher Ali hailing from Kolabari.
Initial on-site testing using drug detection kits confirmed the presence of both heroin and methamphetamine, the latter commonly known as Yaba.
To ensure transparency and maintain a clear record of the proceedings, the entire operation, encompassing both the seizure and the arrests, was meticulously documented through videography and digitally recorded using the e-Sakshya application.
Law enforcement officials are currently in the process of filing a First Information Report (FIR) regarding this significant seizure.
Furthermore, a comprehensive investigation has been launched to delve deeper into the intricacies of the drug trafficking network that may be operating within the region.
The authorities have commended the prompt and well-coordinated actions of the police team involved in this successful operation.
