Assam: Malaria Outbreak Grips Kachugaon, Claims Two Lives
Guwahati: A concerning surge in malaria cases has been reported across various localities in Kachugaon, situated under the Gossaigaon subdivision, with the India-Bhutan border regions particularly affected. The escalating health crisis has tragically resulted in the deaths of two young men, casting a pall over the community.
Responding swiftly to the alarming situation, the Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner has undertaken a visit to the affected areas. In an immediate effort to curb the spread of the infectious disease, the district administration has launched widespread blood testing initiatives.
A dedicated task force from the Malaria Department is currently on the ground, conducting thorough house-to-house blood sample collection drives in several villages. These include Demdema, Nabin Nagar, Alinagar, Raimona, and Kusumbil, where health officials are diligently working to identify and isolate potential cases.
Extending their outreach, the medical teams are also visiting local schools to conduct blood tests on students, aiming to detect infections early and prevent further transmission within the younger population.
Simultaneously, active blood testing is underway at the Kachugaon Civil Hospital, providing accessible diagnostic services to residents. Initial reports from these tests have confirmed the presence of Plasmodium vivax (P. vivax) malaria in several individuals.
Notably, the India-Bhutan border areas within Kachugaon have a history of recurrent malaria outbreaks. This unfortunate pattern has transformed the disease into an anticipated seasonal health challenge for the communities residing in these regions each year.
