Assam: Man accused of poaching shot by police in Biswanath

Guwahati: Amidst the controversies related to the ongoing encounters and firings by the police in Assam, another accused was injured after being shot by the police in Biswanath district today.

The person is accused of being involved in rhino poaching and was arrested from Juria town in Nagaon district on 28 May.

The accused identified as Zakir Hussain alias Zagir.

According to police reports, Zakir Hussain is the associate of the deceased rhino poacher Nalkur.

Reportedly, Hussain agreed to show a location where he had hidden his weapons.

However, in a daring attempt Hussain tried to flee from police custody.

In order to restrain him the Assam Police had to shoot him in his leg thereby injuring him.

It needs to be mentioned that Hussain was immediately shifted to the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
