Assam: Man arrested for hunting deer in Guwahati

Guwahati: A man has been arrested by the Forest Officials for allegedly hunting and killing a protected Barking Deer for purposes of consumption on Wednesday.

The man identified as Shyam Chandra Ray who is a resident from the Highland Enclave near Carbon Gate in Matgharia.

According to reports, Ray was arrested by officials from the Narengi Beat Office of the Guwahati Range.

According to an official release, a deer carcass with a shattered neck and damaged right limb was discovered wrapped in a cement bag in his possession.

Reportedly, the raid on the accused’s residence was conducted based on specific information and eyewitness testimony.

Two people have been charged under various parts of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

However, the identity of the second person is yet to be ascertained.
