Assam: Man Arrested in Chirang for Possession of Tiger Bones, Other Wildlife Parts
Assam: A 64-year-old man was apprehended in Jharbishpani, Bijni, Chirang district on Saturday night following a raid by forest department officials. The accused, identified as Basudev Roy, was found in possession of a cache of illegal wildlife parts, including tiger bones, teeth, and deer horns.
The raid was conducted by the Panbari forest office team based on a credible tip-off. Upon searching Roy’s residence, authorities discovered the contraband hidden within the premises.
Forest officials suspect that the seized items may be linked to an extensive illegal wildlife trafficking network. A senior official stated, “We are currently investigating the source of these animal parts and identifying potential buyers. The accused is being interrogated to gather more information.”
This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by wildlife trafficking in the region. With endangered species like tigers facing increasing poaching pressure, authorities have intensified their efforts to curb illegal activities and protect Assam’s precious biodiversity.
