Assam Man Arrested in Mumbai for Thefts, Valuables Worth Rs 62 Lakh Recovered
Guwahati, 10th April: The police have apprehended a 31-year-old man from Assam who traveled to Mumbai with the intention of committing thefts in the Maharashtra capital and Thane, subsequently returning to his native place to evade capture, an official revealed on Wednesday.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shivraj Patil, the Thane city police successfully apprehended Moinul Abdul Mallik Islam, uncovering his involvement in more than 20 break-ins. Valuables worth over Rs 62 lakh were recovered from him.
The breakthrough in the investigation came when a special team probing burglaries in and around Thane received intelligence suggesting Islam’s complicity in a theft that occurred in the Kalher area in September last year.
This arrest follows closely on the heels of a significant development earlier in March, when the Navi Mumbai police detained eight Bangladeshi nationals suspected of residing in India illegally, a day after the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The anti-human trafficking cell conducted a raid on a flat in Shahbaz village, Belapur area, uncovering a case of prolonged illegal stay. During the operation conducted on Monday morning, officials discovered five women and three men, aged between 20 and 40, who had been residing in the housing complex without valid documents for the past four years, as reported by an official from the NRI Sagri police station.
