Guwahati: A district court in Kokrajhar district of Assam sentenced a man to 20 years of imprisonment after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The minor girl was just 10 years old when the perpetrator raped the young girl in July 2019.
The perpetrator was identified as Sharidul Islam, a resident of Gossaigaon in Assam.
He was detained soon after the incident.
Reportedly, the young victim was being sexually assaulted by Islam when she was grazing the family’s livestock in a pasture by a river close to her home.
The youngster then went to her parents and described the entire incident to them. The family then reported Islam to the police.
Police had registered a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).
