Assam Man jailed in Bangladesh, returns home

Guwahati: A 40-year-old man from Assam who was allegedly missing since the past four years was found to be lodged in a jail in Bangladesh. He returned to India on Monday, September 13.

According to reports the missing person named Mukul Hazarika had gone missing from Assam’s Darrang district in the year 2017 and later was traced in Bangladesh’s Feni jail.

The Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) handed him over to the Border Security Force (BSF) and Belonia police at the Belonia checkpoint on the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura reports claimed.

Hazarika’s father along with Assam police personnel went to Tripura border to receive the returnee on Tuesday.
While talking to media Mukul said that he was tortured by the Bangladeshi police in the prison and he was not being given food on a regular basis. They did not even allow him to return to Assam after finishing his three year jail term, he added.

It may be, mentioned that Mukul was a rickshaw puller by profession and he allegedly went to Bangladesh in February 2017 over reasons best known to him. But, he was arrested by the security forces in Bangladesh.

However, the reason behind his arrested is still not known.
