Assam Man Nabbed in Thrissur for Kottayam Double Murder

Guwahati: Kottayam police have swiftly apprehended a man hailing from Assam in connection with the brutal double murder of a prominent businessman and his wife. The arrest comes less than a day after the shocking discovery of the victims.

The deceased, identified as Vijayakumar, aged 64, and his wife Meera, aged 60, were found lifeless on Tuesday morning within the confines of their Thiruvathukkal residence. Both individuals had sustained grievous injuries, discovered in separate rooms of their home.

Following a rapid investigation, the suspect, Amit Urang, was located and taken into custody at a poultry farm situated near Mala in the Thrissur district. Authorities indicate that Urang was residing at the farm alongside other workers from Assam. His apprehension was facilitated by mobile phone data analysis, which allegedly placed him at the crime scene during the estimated time of the murders.

Investigators reveal that the accused is suspected of having stolen the couple’s mobile phones in the aftermath of the crime. Crucially, the activation of one of these stolen devices subsequently allowed the police to precisely determine his whereabouts through mobile tracking technology.

Initial assessments by the investigating team suggest that revenge could be the underlying motive for the heinous act. Vijayakumar was a respected and influential figure within the local business fraternity, with ownership interests in an auditorium and other commercial enterprises.

Presently, the accused is being transported to Kottayam, where he will undergo further interrogation by the authorities. The ongoing investigation is being spearheaded by a dedicated team led by District Superintendent of Police Shahul Hameed.
