Assam: Man trampled to death by wild elephant in Kamrup
Guwahati: A 55-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Kamrup district of Assam on Saturday.
The incident took place at Birpara village under Gosaihat post office in the state’s Kamrup district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Anil Bodo.
According to reports, the elephant came down from the nearby Maliata hill in Mirza to human inhabited areas searching for food when it reportedly picked up the man from his courtyard. He was mauled and killed by the elephant on the spot.
Reportedly Bodo was found with his feet badly broken.
Locals claim that human-elephant conflicts have been on the rise in the region for some time, but that the forest department has done nothing to lessen the hazards, resulting in deaths in the area.
It needs to be noted that the people from adjacent regions such as Gosaihat, Pirpara, Sontala, Menepara, and Tiniali spend their evenings in fear.
