Assam: Massive ammunition haul in Cachar district, gunpowder and detonators recovered
Guwahati 4th March: Authorities in the Cachar district of Assam have made a significant discovery, recovering a substantial quantity of ammunition, including gunpowder, according to police reports on Monday.
A joint operation conducted by the police and the army led to the discovery of the ammunition buried near a pond within the premises of a house in Rajghat village, located in the Dholai area, on Saturday evening, as per an official statement.
Acting on prior information, the police and army personnel raided the house and uncovered 13 kilograms of gunpowder along with 2,900 detonators, the official disclosed.
However, the owner of the house managed to evade arrest by fleeing from the scene before the arrival of the police, the official further stated.
According to authorities, the owner of the house had previously been incarcerated in connection with a drug-related case and has been associated with a drug racket since 2015, operating within a criminal network.
Further investigations into the matter are currently underway to ascertain additional details and apprehend those involved in the illegal possession of ammunition.
