Assam: Massive Eviction Drive in Goalpara Targets Illegal Land Occupations
Guwahati, 6th November: A substantial eviction operation is currently in progress in Goalpara, Assam, conducted by the district administration with the support of police and CRPF forces. Prior to the official administration’s action, several houses had already been demolished and removed.
The district administration has devised another significant eviction initiative, this time focusing on the Nalbari reserve forest area within the Lakhipur regional forest division in Goalpara. Approximately 500 bighas of land, out of a total of 1,000 bighas in the Nalbari reserve forest, had been illegally occupied by a group of encroachers.
Over an extended period, encroachers had settled on government land, constructing houses without authorization. The district administration had previously issued eviction notices for the release of this land.
Today, a team comprising district administration officials, a substantial police and CRPF force, and forest department personnel has arrived at the eviction site to initiate the operation. However, anticipating the eviction, some individuals have already dismantled their doors in advance. The district administration is now on-site with a JCB Bulldozer, signaling the imminent commencement of the eviction drive.
