Assam: Massive Fire Devastates Thatch Houses in Karbi Anglong
Guwahati, 29th April: A devastating fire engulfed Borlengri, Karbi Anglong, along the Assam-Nagaland border, destroying 46 thatch houses on April 28. The incident, which occurred around 1 pm, spread rapidly from one house to others, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Prompt response from the West Fire Station Dimapur and Central Fire Station saw two fire tenders each deployed to the scene. However, the flimsy nature of the houses facilitated the fire’s rapid spread, with approximately 40 structures consumed before the blaze was brought under control by 3 pm.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, although suspicions of a short-circuit fuse arose due to a power cut in the area at the time of the incident. Despite the valiant efforts of firefighters, nothing could be salvaged from the homes, resulting in extensive property damage.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, offering a glimmer of relief amidst the devastating aftermath. However, the full extent of property damage is still being assessed as the affected community grapples with the aftermath of the tragic fire.
