Assam: Massive Fire Engulfs Village in Bongaigaon District
Guwahati, 1st March: A devastating fire tore through the 2nd block village of Harir Char in Bongaigaon district, leaving behind a scene of destruction and despair. The inferno, ignited by a short circuit of electricity during the night, engulfed the homes of Borhan Ali, a laborer in brick kilns, and his brother Shukur Ali, a local hardware shop owner.
In the blaze, Borhan Ali’s residence was reduced to ashes, along with all his possessions. Equally devastating was the loss suffered by Shukur Ali, who witnessed his house, belongings, documents, and even livestock consumed by the relentless flames. The monetary loss incurred is estimated to be around Rs 10 lakh, with Shukur Ali alone losing Rs 3 lakh in cash.
Despite efforts to seek assistance from the fire brigade, the situation worsened due to the unavailability of proper transportation. The fire tender dispatched to the scene was forced to return halfway, exacerbating the already dire circumstances. Only through the intervention of local residents could the fire be eventually brought under control.
Expressing their anguish and frustration, the affected community members have called upon the Assam government and divisional authorities to establish a fire station at the police station and extend urgent assistance to the distressed families. MLA Abdul Batin Khandkar has been urged to intervene and provide much-needed support to those left homeless and destitute in the wake of this calamity.
