Assam: A massive protest broke out in Lahowal as more than a thousand angry locals surrounded the Lahowal Police Station, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused in a brutal rape and murder case. The protesters, visibly enraged, chanted slogans against the police, Assam Police, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, as paramilitary forces were deployed to maintain order.

The crime, which involved the alleged rape and murder of 22-year-old Sabha Majhi, has shocked the region. Her naked body was discovered in the Chesa River on January 13, four days after she was reported missing. Sabha had been last seen on January 9, and her body showed signs of severe injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that she was in a romantic relationship with the accused, identified as Barun Murah of Timona in Lahowal, who remains at large.

Local residents have accused the police of negligence and inefficiency, expressing frustration over the delay in capturing the accused. The protesters have continued their gherao of the police station, demanding swift justice and the immediate apprehension of Barun Murah.

Authorities have assured that efforts are ongoing to locate the accused, with forensic teams working on evidence collected from the crime scene. The case has raised serious concerns about safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in the region.
