Assam: Massive Protest Erupts in Nilambazar Demanding Repeal of Waqf Bill Amendment Act

Guwahati: Nilambazar witnessed a significant demonstration today as more than a thousand individuals, rallied by the Kaibarta Muslim Organization, took to the streets to vehemently oppose the recently enacted Waqf Bill Amendment Act.

The protestors congregated at the office of the Nilambazar Circle Officer, voicing their strong disapproval through impassioned slogans and collective expressions of discontent against the legislative alterations.

The situation took a tense turn when the demonstrating crowd attempted to obstruct the flow of traffic on National Highway No. 6. This action led to a brief confrontation with security personnel who were present to maintain order. In response to the escalating situation, a contingent of police and paramilitary forces was promptly deployed to manage the crowd and restore normalcy to the area.

Despite the momentary clash between protestors and law enforcement, the overall demonstration remained largely peaceful. Authorities have since confirmed that the situation has been brought under control, and there have been no reports of significant injuries or arrests resulting from the incident. However, the brief disruption caused temporary inconvenience to commuters and vehicular movement in and around Nilambazar.

Leaders representing the Kaibarta Muslim Organization at the local level have made it clear that their agitation against the Waqf Bill Amendment Act will persist. They have asserted their unwavering commitment to continue protesting until the contentious legislative changes are revoked by the concerned authorities.
