Assam: Massive Rally in Karimganj Marks Preparations for Shaheed Diwas Celebrations

Guwahati, 17th May: Karimganj witnessed a massive rally ahead of the upcoming Shaheed Diwas celebrations on May 19, commemorating the sacrifice of 11 martyrs for the Bengali language in 1961. Shaheed Diwas, observed annually on May 19, serves as a solemn tribute to those who laid down their lives for the cause of preserving the Bengali language.

This year, three districts of the Barak Valley, including Karimganj, have decided to observe Shaheed Diwas on May 19. The rally in Karimganj drew significant participation from various groups, including students from different schools, as they marched in solidarity towards the AOC point, crossing the city’s main highway.

Among the participants were notable figures like the Chairman of Assam Transport Corporation, Ranjan Das, and other senior individuals, who joined the rally as a mark of reverence to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the Bengali language in 1961. Their courageous actions played a pivotal role in establishing Bengali as the official language in the Barak Valley.

The rally symbolized the unwavering spirit of the people of Karimganj and their deep-rooted appreciation for the cultural and linguistic heritage that the martyrs fought to preserve. As preparations for Shaheed Diwas continue, the rally served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for the Bengali language and the enduring legacy of those who laid down their lives for its cause.
