Assam: Massive Sit-in in Dhubri Demands End to Communal Violence in Bangladesh

Dhubri, Assam: Hundreds of people, including prominent leaders and religious figures, gathered at the Raja Prabhat Chandra Barua Field on Monday morning to demand an end to communal violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.

Organized by the Lok Jagran Manch, the sit-in protest saw a diverse group of participants, from yoga practitioners to religious leaders, united by a common cause. Placards bearing strong messages of condemnation and calls for justice were prominently displayed.

Dr. Dipendra Nath Adhikary and Bablu Kumar Roy, key figures from the Lok Jagran Manch, played a pivotal role in mobilizing the crowd. They were joined by Jitendra Nath Pradhani, state president of Satra Mahasabha, and Monindra Nath Roy, president of the Dhubri district unit of Biswa Hindu Parishad. Bishnu Maharaj, president of Dhubri Garia Math, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for solidarity and peace.

Representatives from Patanjali Yoga Samiti and Art of Living were present, further underscoring the broad-based support for the cause. ISKCON devotees chanted prayers, while religious leaders urged the authorities to take immediate action.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Adhikary highlighted the urgent need to protect the rights and dignity of Hindus in Bangladesh. “This is not just a religious issue; it is a matter of human rights and justice,” a religious leader remarked.

The sit-in underscored the growing concerns over communal tensions in the region and called for both international and local efforts to address the issue. The Lok Jagran Manch, known for its advocacy on social justice issues, vowed to continue its efforts until the violence is halted.

At the end of the protest, a memorandum was submitted to Prof. Mohammad Yunus, the Hon’ble Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh. The memorandum urged immediate steps to end the violence, protect the rights of minority communities, and ensure justice for victims of communal atrocities.
