Assam-Meghalaya Clash: Additional Security Stepped Up In Jorabat

Guwahati: Additional security has been deployed under flyover in Jorabat to manage the tense situation between Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday.

Reports claim that the Assam government has implemented a few preventative steps in Jorabat to manage the dispute between the two states.

Security has been tightened in Jorabat area.

Precautionary steps were taken to stop the criminals’ attack on innocent bystanders.

Since the shooting incident that left at least four Meghalayan residents and one Assamese forest guard dead, there has been animosity between the two states, with reports of criminals assaulting Assamese drivers and visitors in Meghalaya.

In a few areas, vehicles with Assam registration were set on fire, and black flags were flown in front of hotels where state visitors were staying.

It should be noted that on Tuesday morning, shooting broke out at Mukhrow under Jirikinding PS in West Karbi Anglong District between Assam Forest Officials and unidentified miscreants. According to reports, the incident occurred when the Forest Party tried to stop a truck from transporting illicit timber.

When the forest party workers halted the truck, they were attacked by gheraoed miscreants who used violence. The woodland party turned to gunfire in an effort to save their lives. Three civilians and one forest guard perished in the incident.
