Assam Minister Condemns Attack on Police, Alleges Community Intolerance; CM Calls for Firm Action
Guwahati, June 28: Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika has strongly condemned a recent attack on police personnel in Dhing, Assam, highlighting concerns over intolerance towards law enforcement from a specific community. In a social media post on June 28, Hazarika shared footage of the incident, depicting a mob assaulting officers on duty in Nagaon district.
Earlier, on June 27, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the media in Nalbari, expressing alarm over post-election disturbances allegedly caused by certain groups. He emphasized the need for stringent police action to maintain peace, citing recent incidents across the state.
Sarma’s statements followed Hazarika’s earlier remarks linking several recent incidents in Assam to individuals from a specific community. The Chief Minister underscored the seriousness of recent crimes, including rape cases and mob violence, which he attributed to a disturbing increase in criminal activities in the state over the past month.
The government’s response signals a concerted effort to address rising security challenges and maintain stability in Assam, which has been relatively peaceful in recent years.
