Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah Speaks on Political Dynamics and Cultural Identity

Guwahati, 21st March: Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah made significant remarks at the BJP-AGP karyakarta sammelan at Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district today, addressing various aspects of political dynamics and cultural identity in the state.

During interactions with the media, the minister emphasized that the Assam BJP maintains a selective approach in its interactions, refraining from engaging with individuals such as Congress MP Abdul Khaleque and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal. Baruah stated, “The day Abdul Khaleque resigned, everyone knew that he would again come back and there were no surprises. Now the people who want to stay in Congress must stay there and the ones who the BJP wants are coming automatically. People like Abdul Khaleque should stay in Congress only.”

Responding to inquiries about Abdul Khaleque’s contact with BJP following his resignation, Baruah asserted, “Why should BJP contact him or engage in talks if he contacted us? We don’t communicate with certain individuals, including Abdul Khaleque or Badruddin Ajmal, as it does not align with our organizational values.”

Earlier, Baruah had questioned Gaurav Gogoi’s understanding and respect for Assamese culture, particularly following his marriage to a foreigner. Highlighting Gogoi’s significant time spent abroad and his marriage to a foreign woman, Baruah expressed concerns that such factors could potentially distance him from the culture and civilization of Assam. He emphasized that to truly understand Assamese culture, one must experience the land and its people firsthand, suggesting that Gogoi had not done so.

Baruah’s remarks shed light on the complexities of political alignments and the significance of cultural identity in Assam, reflecting ongoing discussions and debates within the state’s political landscape.
