Assam: Minister Pijush Hazarika visits erosion affected area in Morigaon
Guwahati, 19 June: Assam cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika on Monday went to the Morigaon district’s erosion-affected villages along the Brahmaputra River and assessed the situation.
Hazarika went to the erosion-affected villages of Bhuragaon’s Balidonga and Kuptimari to assess the situation.
The minister gave the district administration and water resources department officials instructions to finish the erosion prevention work as soon as feasible after evaluating the affected regions.
Hazarika has ordered the construction of a new embankment behind the existing one in Balidonga-Kuptimari. He also stated that permanent preventive measures will be performed the next year with support from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
Taking to twitter, Hazarika said, “Made an on ground inspection of the Balidonga & Kuptimari under Lahorighat constituency today which have been hit by the erosion caused by Brahmaputra. WR Dept. has implemented temporary preventive measures through installation of geo bags & porcupines. I have directed the dept. officials to initiate further prevention through permanent measures at the earliest.”
