Assam Minister Suggests Zubeen Garg to Approach Supreme Court Regarding CAA Exclusion

Guwahati, 7th March: Amid ongoing discussions on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and its potential impacts in Assam, Assam’s Minister, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, has suggested singer Zubeen Garg to consider approaching the Supreme Court for the exclusion of CAA from the state.

Speaking to the media, Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass emphasized that Zubeen Garg, being an artist loved by all, should maintain a distance from making statements on such sensitive issues. He pointed out that CAA applies to the entire country, not just Assam, and suggested that Garg can seek recourse through legal means if he opposes the act’s implementation in Assam.

The minister reiterated his belief that there should be no barriers or provisions as per law for indigenous people, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic rights. He encouraged individuals like Zubeen Garg to exercise their democratic rights, including voting and legal recourse, to address their concerns regarding CAA.

This development follows Zubeen Garg’s vocal opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act, where he declared that he would work to prevent its implementation as long as he is active. Garg’s remarks were made during a recent speech where he expressed concerns over the act’s implications and urged attendees to protest against it.

In related news, the United Opposition Forum of Assam has submitted a memorandum to Indian President Droupadi Murmu, urging the repeal of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act and requesting that it not be implemented in Assam.
