Assam Minister UG Brahma Pays Tribute to Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Assam: Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who died at the age of 92 on December 26.

Describing him as “India’s most educated and financially astute leader,” Brahma highlighted Singh’s unparalleled contributions to the nation’s economic and global stature.

Speaking to reporters, Brahma praised the former Prime Minister’s intellectual depth and economic acumen. “He was the most educated and financially astute leader India has ever seen. Under his guidance, India made remarkable strides in economic growth, global standing, and financial reforms. His policies and vision were instrumental in India’s rise as a global player,” Brahma stated.

Dr Singh passed away at AIIMS Delhi on Thursday night after being admitted in critical condition earlier in the evening. Known as the architect of India’s 1991 economic liberalisation, Singh’s leadership as both Finance Minister and Prime Minister significantly shaped India’s economic trajectory.

In honour of Singh’s legacy, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a seven-day state mourning from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025. During this period, the national flag will fly at half-mast across all state government establishments, and official entertainment programs will remain suspended.

Dr Singh’s passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of transformative policies and visionary leadership that continue to influence India’s economic and political landscape.
