Assam: Minor Girl Held for Allegedly Murdering Mother in Guwahati’s Chachal Area
Guwahati, September 28, 2024: In a tragic and shocking incident, a minor girl was arrested on Friday evening by Dispur police in Guwahati for the alleged murder of her mother, Manju Devi, at their residence in Purnima Mansion, Chachal. The 40-year-old victim was reportedly killed during a heated altercation with her daughter, a budding tennis player, using a mortar pestle as the weapon.
The incident took place around 7:30 PM on September 27, while the girl’s father, Deep Chand Prasad, a tennis coach, was away on his coaching duties. According to police sources, the mother-daughter duo became involved in a fierce argument, which escalated to the point where the daughter, in a fit of rage, allegedly attacked her mother, delivering fatal blows with the heavy kitchen tool.
Neighbors, alarmed by the disturbing sounds coming from the family’s apartment, contacted local authorities. The police responded promptly, arriving at the scene and arresting the young girl. Manju Devi was found severely injured and succumbed to the attack before any medical help could be administered.
The accused was taken into custody, and Dispur police have launched an investigation to uncover more details about the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking crime. Initial findings suggest that tensions between the mother and daughter had been building for some time, though the exact nature of their argument remains unclear.
The local community has been left stunned by the incident, struggling to comprehend how a domestic dispute spiraled into such a tragic outcome. Residents of the Chachal area expressed disbelief, describing the family as quiet and seemingly normal, with no outward signs of such internal strife.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, and the case has raised serious concerns about the mental and emotional well-being of the accused, with many calling for a deeper look into the pressures that may have contributed to the violent altercation.
