Assam & Mizoram CMs To Hold Talks On Border Issues

Guwahati: The chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma and the chief minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga will speak once more about the unresolved border issues between the two states.

This comes after the CMs of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh had border talks with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday.

It should be noted that Amit Shah and the chief ministers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh met last week in Delhi to discuss this.

Meanwhile, CM Sarma would meet with his Mizoram counterpart after returning from the national capital to continue the endeavour to settle the inter-state border problems.

The two CMs would probably meet with the Union home minister as well to go through the latest developments in the case.

Amit Shah was there when they last spoke in Delhi in November 2021 to discuss the long-standing issue.

Seven Assam Police officers died and numerous others were injured when the border dispute got violent in July of last year.

Following the altercation, negotiations between representatives from the two Northeastern states were held several times in an effort to resolve the conflict amicably.

In 1972, Mizoram was designated as a union territory. It was carved out of Assam, and in 1987 it became a state.

Following initial acceptance along the border with Assam, disagreements on the Mizoram side slowly started to arise, resulting in clashes that last year turned violent.
