Assam: MLA Siddique Ahmed Raises Complaint Against PWD Executive Engineer for Alleged Corruption
Guwahati, 6th March: South Karimganj Constituency MLA Siddique Ahmed has lodged a complaint against Md Chamed Ali, Executive Engineer of PWD Road Division, Karimganj, accusing him of taking hefty sums from contractors for bill releases without executing planned works. This has allegedly led to the acquisition of significant assets through illegal means, surpassing his known sources of income.
Following government approval, a preliminary inquiry was conducted, substantiating the allegations of Md Chamed Ali acquiring disproportionate assets. Consequently, Vigilance Police Station Case No.09/2023 U/S 13(1) (b)/ 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) was registered against him.
A press release states, “Upon completion of the investigation, Md Chamed Ali, the former Executive Engineer, PWD Road Division, Karimganj, was found guilty of criminal misconduct, enriching himself illicitly and abusing his position as a public servant for personal gain.”
During the investigation, Md Chamed Ali was arrested on January 18 for failing to surrender his Indian passport. Following the arrest, he was remanded to 5 days of police custody and later transferred to judicial custody, presently held in the district central Jail, Guwahati.
Forensic auditing revealed disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 3 crore against his known sources of income. A chargesheet has been submitted against him today (March 6) under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended in 2018).
