Assam: Monsoon Rains Turn Key Kokrajhar-Dhubri Road into Impassable Waterway

A vital rural artery connecting Kokrajhar and Dhubri has been submerged following recent monsoon showers, effectively transforming the road into a large pond. This inundation has brought daily life to a standstill for countless residents, students, and vehicular traffic traversing this crucial route.

The severely waterlogged stretch, situated a mere three kilometers from Kokrajhar town, the administrative heart of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), has become a significant impediment after just one bout of heavy rainfall. The rapidly worsening state of the road has not only disrupted essential transportation links but has also inflicted considerable distress upon the communities residing in Bhotgaon and adjacent localities.

Driven by mounting frustration and a sense of neglect, the All Bodo Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) organized a demonstration on Friday. The protestors passionately called for the immediate repair and restoration of the road, emphasizing the urgent need for safe and unimpeded travel. Their collective voice echoed a deep dissatisfaction with the perceived inaction of local authorities, demanding swift and effective measures to rectify the situation.

Jaidul Islam, the General Secretary of ABMSU, delivered a strong ultimatum during the protest. He declared that if the critical road is not promptly repaired and rendered suitable for vehicular movement within the coming week, Arup Kumar Dey, the elected Member of the Legislative Assembly representing the Fakiragram constituency and a key Executive Member of the BTC, would face a ban from entering the affected areas. This resolute stance underscores the escalating public outcry and the pressing need for governmental intervention to resolve this protracted infrastructure crisis.
