Assam: Morigaon District Implements Winter Restrictions to Curb Road Accidents

Guwahati, 29th December: In an effort to mitigate the potential risks of road accidents during the winter months, the Morigaon district administration has enforced stringent measures with precautionary restrictions. These regulations, implemented under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, aim to prevent potential loss of life and property due to reduced visibility caused by dense fog in the morning and night. The decision also stems from the recent surge in road accidents, resulting in casualties and injuries.

District Magistrate Debashish Sharma, in the imposed restrictions, has prohibited the operation of e-rickshaws on state highways and rural roads from 5 pm to 6 am. Additionally, the movement of dumpers is restricted on national highways and other state roads between 5 pm and 7 am. The directive extends to the prohibition of parking any type of vehicle, including heavy vehicles, in front of establishments such as dhabas, hotels, and resorts on reserve land along national highways and state roads, excluding designated parking areas.

Any violation of these measures, effective immediately, will lead to legal action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, as stated in the official order. The district administration’s proactive approach aims to enhance safety on roads and address the challenges posed by adverse winter conditions, promoting the well-being of the community.
