Assam Municipal Elections: BJP leads in 548 wards, Congress in 61
Guwahati: The counting of Assam civic polls for 80 municipal boards comprising of 977 wards across the state which began today at 8 am on Wednesday.
The BJP has taken an early lead in 548 wards out of 977 wards, Congress in 61 wards while others in 125 wards.
In total 2,532 candidates were there contending for votes and the election was place on Sunday.
Out of 977 wards only votes of 920 wards will be counting, 57 were already been declared uncontested.
As per the reports, more than 16 lakh voters comprising 8.32 lakh males, 8.41 females and 17 transgenders has casted their votes.
It may be mentioned that this is the first time Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) were used in the civic elections instead of ballot papers (BP).
According to the Assam state election commission, a total of 70 percent voters’ turnout in the polls.
