Assam: Murder Suspect Injured in Police Firing During Escape Attempt in Kamrup

Guwahati, 30th July: A man arrested for the murder of a 15-year-old girl was injured in police firing on Monday when he allegedly tried to escape custody, a senior official reported.

The incident occurred in Hajo, Kamrup district, as police brought the suspect to the crime scene for investigation. “We arrested the accused on July 26 for the murder of a 15-year-old girl on July 25. Early Monday morning, police had taken him to the crime scene when he pushed one of our constables and attempted to flee,” the official said.

Despite warnings from the police to stop, the suspect continued his escape attempt, prompting police to fire a round at his leg. “He sustained a bullet injury in his left leg and was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment,” the official added.

The suspect remains under medical supervision as the investigation continues.
