Assam: Murdered Man’s Body Exhumed After 6 Months in Morigaon
Guwahati: The body of Guwahati victim of kidnapping and murder Biswajit Hazarika was exhumed on Saturday in the Morigaon district of Assam.
With the assistance of the local police, a team from the crime section and forensic specialists searched the government cremation in Morigaon.
It should be noted that on the evening of October 9 of last year, Biswajit Hazarika was abducted while he was riding home in a rickshaw. His family had been asked for Rs. 40 lakh by the kidnappers. They didn’t show up to take the money, and Hazarika was still missing.
After a month, on November 1, an unidentified body was found in the Nellie area of Morigaon. This body was ultimately determined to be Biswajit’s.
According to reports, Biswajit’s body was interred in Nellie after spending 72 hours at the mortuary being identified.
Morigaon’s Superintendent of Police Hemanta Kumar Das claimed that a group from the Guwahati Police had contacted them regarding the body.
Hemanta Kumar Das said, “A body was recovered in Nellie police outpost area in November. As the body was not identified after 72 hours of its recovery, we buried it as per the procedure.”
“Today, it was disinterred in the presence of an executive magistrate and forensic experts. The identity will be ascertained through due process” he further said.
Das added that after a thorough investigation, experts will confirm the identify, although it is thought to be that of Guwahati native Biswajit Hazarika.
The body has been sent for further forensic investigation.
It should be noted that six people were detained by the Guwahati police last month in connection with the kidnapping case. Debajit Deka, Ajay Kalita, Pranab Ranghang, Sanjay Kumar Phagat, Paresh Chetri, and Mayur Nath were among them. Ajay Kalita, a resident of Panjabari, was the case’s primary planner.
