Assam: Naga Militant Leader Fatally Shot by Fellow Member in Internal Dispute in Cachar

Guwahati, 13th December: A Naga militant leader was fatally shot by a fellow member of his outfit following an internal dispute near the Assam-Manipur border on Tuesday, according to police reports.

The incident unfolded in the Jiringhat area of Assam’s Cachar district, where the deceased had been residing with relatives for a period.

The outfit, to which the now-deceased militant belonged, was under a ceasefire agreement with the government, noted a police officer.

He stated, “During a meeting, a dispute emerged, leading to gunfire outside the meeting venue.”

The officer refrained from disclosing specific details but confirmed the slain militant’s senior leadership within the outfit. “We are actively investigating the matter, and senior police officials have swiftly responded to the incident,” he added.

In this unfortunate event, Gaidin Chungpao, a senior leader of the Naga Nationalist Council, lost his life, while another group member, Kahnlun Gai, sustained injuries in the shooting incident.
