Assam: Nagaon Bust Nets Heroin Haul, One Arrested
Guwahati: A significant narcotics seizure has taken place in Assam’s Nagaon district, as law enforcement apprehended an individual found in possession of heroin valued at approximately one crore rupees.
The operation, executed by the Assam Police, resulted in the recovery of 461 grams of the contraband.
The arrest stemmed from actionable intelligence, leading to the interception of a vehicle in the Gereki locality. A meticulous search of the vehicle yielded the substantial quantity of heroin, prompting the immediate arrest of the individual involved.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the successful operation via his official X account, extending his congratulations to the Assam Police for their efforts. He underscored the state government’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and commended the police personnel for their diligence, posting “Good job Assam police”.
This latest seizure follows a major operation in Sribhumi district near the Mizoram border on March 16th, where Assam Police seized yaba tablets worth approximately 24 crore rupees. Two individuals were taken into custody in that instance. The operation involved the interception of a truck, based on intelligence, and the discovery of 80,000 yaba tablets concealed within a specially designed compartment. Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das reported that the truck, originating from Mizoram’s Champhai district, was stopped at the Puwamara bypass, leading to the discovery.
