Assam: SP Anand Mishra transferred to Assam after comments on ex-student leader

Guwahati: The Assam government on Wednesday transferred Nagaon Superintendent of Police Anand Mishra, following the official’s comments in connection with the encounter of former student leader Kirti Kamal Bora last month.

Anand Mishra, IPS, SP Nagaon, has been transferred to the Police Headquarters, Assam in Ulubari of Guwahati, according to an Assam government announcement issued late Wednesday night.

While addressing the press conference on Wednesday, Anand Mishra said, Kirti Kamal Bora is not an innocent in our eyes. He was found with known drug peddlers and offenders; then how can he be innocent?”

However, the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his ‘dissatisfaction’ with the Nagaon SP’s press conference on the Committee Report on the Nagaon Firing Incident held earlier today.

It may be noted that On January 23 Sarma had announced a one-man inquiry commission, comprising additional chief secretary Pawan Kumar Borthakur, to probe the Bora’s injury.

The one-man committee report submitted by ACS Paban Kumar Borthakur stated that it was the Nagaon Police’s fault in the firing incident of Kirti Kamal Bora.

It may be mentioned that the anti-narcotics squad of Nagaon police reportedly shot former general secretary of the Nagaon college student union and AASU leader Bora on the 22nd of January.
