Assam: National Girl Child Day and BBBP Scheme’s 10th Anniversary Celebrated in Barpeta
Assam: Barpeta celebrated National Girl Child Day and the 10th Anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme on January 24 at Palhaji Higher Secondary School, Gomafulbari Block.
The event, organized by the Women and Child Development Department in collaboration with the District Administration, Barpeta, saw participation from various line departments, including Health, Education, and P&RD, along with students and teachers.
The District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) of Barpeta also attended the event.
National Girl Child Day is observed annually on January 24 to raise awareness about the rights, education, and health of the girl child, and to combat gender-based discrimination.
The event featured speeches from dignitaries who emphasized the importance of empowering girls through education and support.
A Nukkad Natak (street play) was staged to raise awareness about the dangers of child marriage. The event also included an Annaprashan ceremony aimed at promoting the health and nutrition of children.
Additionally, an anaemia screening camp was organized, where two students with the highest haemoglobin levels were recognized and felicitated.
Meritorious girls were also honored for their achievements, inspiring other young girls to excel in their pursuits.
The celebration highlighted the continued efforts of the BBBP scheme and the commitment to fostering a supportive environment for the growth and development of girls across the country.
