Assam: NCC Girls Training Camp Begins in Guwahati, Fostering Leadership and Discipline

Guwahati: The Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC)-151 for NCC Girls cadets officially kicked off today at SaruSajai Stadium in Guwahati, bringing together 275 cadets from 30 schools, colleges, and universities across the region.

This 10-day program, scheduled to run until December 18, 2024, is organized under the aegis of the NCC Directorate NER, Shillong, and led by the 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC, Guwahati, alongside other units from the NCC Group Headquarters in the city.

Designed to instill discipline and foster leadership qualities, the camp offers participants a taste of a regimented lifestyle. Cadets, ranging from ninth graders to final-year college students, will engage in an intensive training regimen that includes military drills, firing practice, range exercises, and specialized skill development. The program also emphasizes community living, character building, first-aid training, and confidence enhancement, aiming to holistically shape the young participants into responsible citizens and future leaders.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Camp Commandant Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma encouraged cadets to embrace the discipline and structure of the military lifestyle, stressing that it would equip them with the organization and efficiency necessary to succeed in life. He emphasized the importance of personal growth and the values of teamwork and responsibility in shaping well-rounded individuals.

Throughout the camp, cadets will also take part in competitions such as volleyball, tug-of-war, painting, debate, elocution, and firing. These activities are complemented by expert-led sessions on topics like responsible citizenship, understanding the Indian Army, and traffic management. Representatives from the NDRF, NEDFi, and former NCC cadets will share their experiences to further enrich the cadets’ knowledge and skills.

Brigadier Ajit Kumar Borah, VSM, Group Commander of NCC Group Headquarters, Guwahati, visited the camp today to oversee the proceedings and interact with the cadets. He urged them to uphold the values of sincerity, discipline, and teamwork, which are integral to personal and professional success. His visit underscored the commitment of the NCC to nurture young minds for the challenges ahead.

With a curriculum tailored to prepare cadets for NCC certification and instill leadership qualities, the camp promises to leave a lasting impact. As it progresses, it aims to inspire and empower participants to emerge as capable leaders ready to contribute to society and build a better future.
