Assam Nears Completion of PMAY Target with Over 19.5 Lakh Houses Built

Assam: Assam’s Minister for Rural Development, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, announced substantial progress under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), bringing the state closer to its goal of providing affordable housing for all.

“The target was 20 lakh houses, and we have completed exactly 19,52,339,” Dass stated, highlighting the state’s remarkable performance in implementing the flagship housing scheme.

Acknowledging the central government’s support, Dass added, “When 19 lakh houses were completed, the Prime Minister gave us 1 lakh 72 thousand free houses. Out of this, we have already completed 10,000 houses.”

While celebrating these achievements, Dass noted that challenges remain. “Approximately 6 lakh people are yet to get homes,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to addressing the housing deficit and ensuring that no one is left behind.

The PMAY initiative in Assam has not only provided affordable housing to millions but also contributed significantly to improving rural infrastructure and livelihoods, making it a cornerstone of the state’s development efforts.
