Assam: Neglected State Highway in Kaliabor Raises Alarm; Urgent Repairs Demanded
Guwahati, 23rd June: Residents in Kaliabor are voicing deep concerns over the deteriorating condition of a vital state highway, which has severely impacted daily life across the region. Managed by the construction department, this crucial route links numerous tea gardens and localities in Karbi Anglong to NH 37 in Amoni, serving as a lifeline for commuters since 2018.
The worsening state of the highway has led to significant inconvenience and hardships for thousands of residents, including students and patients who rely on it for essential travel. Despite repeated appeals to authorities, locals lament the prolonged neglect and lack of action. According to a resident, “Since 2018, this road connecting to the National Highway has deteriorated, causing major difficulties. Students and patients alike face numerous challenges due to its poor condition. Our pleas to the authorities have gone unanswered.”
Efforts to highlight the issue recently culminated in a meeting with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, where assurances of swift action were given. However, tangible improvements have yet to materialize, leaving communities navigating through impassable stretches and hazardous potholes.
Areas like Shalna, Sonajuri, Lengteng, and others in Amni are particularly affected, with reports indicating the formation of deep potholes exacerbated by weather conditions. Residents are unified in their demand for urgent repairs and development, stressing the highway’s critical role in connecting locales such as Dijuvelly, Udmari, Rangamati, Kathalguri, Anjukpani, and surrounding areas.
With frustration mounting over the deteriorating conditions persisting for six years, residents continue to await effective intervention to restore the highway’s usability and ensure safe travel for all.
