Assam: New MLAs take oath
Guwahati: Five new MLAs were sworn in as legislators of the Assam Assembly on Thursday, after being elected in by-elections which was held on October 30.
Speaker Biswajit Daimary of the Assam Legislative Assembly gave the oath to BJP MLAs Phanidhar Talukdar, Rupjyoti Kurmi, and Sushanta Borgohain, as well as ruling alliance UPPL MLAs Jiron Basumatary and Jolen Daimary, during a brief ceremony.
The bye-elections were necessitated after BPF MLA of Gossaigaon and UPPL MLA of Tamulpur constituency died due to post Covid-19 complications and the MLAs of Thowra, Mariani and Bhabanipur switched to BJP.
The National Song was played in instrumental form to begin the swearing-in ceremony and ended with the pre-recorded singing of the state anthem, ‘O Mor Aponar Desh.’
