Assam: New Urea Plant Announced in Namrup as Part of Budget 2025
New Delhi – Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget 2025 speech, announced the establishment of a new urea plant in Namrup, Assam, to bolster the region’s fertilizer supply and support agricultural growth.
The upcoming facility, with an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tons, is a key component of the government’s strategy to enhance agricultural productivity and stimulate economic development in the Northeast.
The initiative follows extensive discussions between Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister JP Nadda regarding the expansion of Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Ltd (BVFCL) in Namrup.
With an investment of Rs 500 crore, the project will include the establishment of two state-of-the-art Nano Urea plants, modernizing existing infrastructure and significantly increasing production capacity. The move is expected to benefit farmers by ensuring a stable urea supply while also fostering job creation and industrial growth in the region.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the transformative impact of the project, emphasizing its role in creating employment opportunities for the youth and boosting Assam’s economy.
The expansion aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s broader vision to strengthen capital industries in Northeast India.
Beyond industrial development, the project will also contribute to social infrastructure enhancements, including the construction of a community hall and sports facilities for children.
These initiatives aim to improve the overall quality of life for residents in the Namrup region, further cementing the government’s commitment to balanced regional growth.
