Assam: Newly Constructed Health Centre in Dhubri District Turns into a Gambling Zone
Guwahati, 1st November: A Primary Health Centre in Dhubri district, constructed five years ago, remains non-operational and has turned into a gambling zone, highlighting a severe failure of government initiatives. This situation exposes the shortcomings in the state’s health department, especially at a time when new medical colleges are being established.
The Kacharihat Primary Health Centre in Dhubri district, meant to serve over 15,000 people in the Gram Panchayat, has been without health-related staff for the past five years. This neglect has led to the health centre becoming a gambling spot.
Villagers now have to travel 15 kilometers to reach the closest health facility in Dharmasala Block, or in critical cases, they need to cover 25 kilometers to reach Dhubri Medical College and Hospital. The lack of operational health services has left the locals frustrated.
Despite the health centre being constructed as per official guidelines and handed over to the health department in 2018, it remains non-functional. The Outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient Department (IPD), along with the nurse’s and doctor’s quarters, have fallen into disrepair.
This situation reflects poorly on the health department’s commitment to providing adequate healthcare to the people of Dhubri, setting an unfortunate precedent.
