Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has submitted the first charge sheet in relation to the arrests made in recent months for alleged Al-Qaeda ties in Assam.
Eight defendants are included on the charge sheet. One of the eight belongs to Tripura, while seven of the eight are Barpeta inhabitants.
The persons named in the charge sheet are Saiful Islam, Khairul Islam, Badshah Sulaiman, Naushad Ali, Mamunur Rashid, Imran Hasan, Mukbul Hussain and Mufti Sulaiman.
Several people have been detained around the state on suspicion of having ties to the banned groups Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).
