Assam: Nilambazar Police Bust Interstate Drug Syndicate, Seize Heroin Worth ₹3 Crore

Guwahati: In a significant triumph against drug trafficking, the Nilambazar police have successfully intercepted a substantial consignment of heroin, estimated to be worth ₹3 crore in the illicit market. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of two women believed to be key players in a sophisticated drug smuggling network spanning Assam and Tripura.

Following a tip-off regarding suspicious activities, law enforcement officials intercepted a consignment being transported by Manju Debnath and her sister-in-law, Pushpa Debnath, both hailing from Agartala, the capital city of Tripura. Police sources indicate that the two women are suspected to be deeply entrenched in an organized criminal enterprise involved in the distribution of narcotics throughout the Northeast region.

Preliminary investigations have unveiled that the seized contraband, meticulously concealed within 55 soap cases, was being transported in a bag via train. The intended destination for the illicit drugs was reportedly Tripura. However, the timely and decisive intervention by the Nilambazar police thwarted the delivery, dealing a significant blow to the drug trafficking operations in the region. Authorities are continuing their investigation to dismantle the entire network and apprehend other individuals involved.
