Assam: Notorious Thief Escapes Police Custody in Bongaigaon
Guwahati: In a startling incident, a notorious thief escaped from the Kokila Police Outpost in Assam’s Bongaigaon district, highlighting a serious breach in police security.
The thief, identified as Monirul Islam, was initially apprehended on January 15 while attempting a theft in Kokila Second Block.
Following his arrest, a case was registered against him the next day, and he was sent to judicial custody.
Three days later, the Kokila Police Outpost brought Monirul back into their custody for further investigation.
Despite being handcuffed, the thief managed to escape during the night, leaving the police red-faced.
Known for his involvement in multiple thefts in the area, Monirul’s escape has rekindled fear among local residents, who have been grappling with repeated thefts.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about the efficiency of the Kokila Police Outpost, particularly under the leadership of Officer Gopal Bora.
Allegations have surfaced pointing to lapses in securing the suspect, with critics demanding accountability for the escape.
Local residents and community leaders are calling for strict action against Officer Bora, urging higher authorities to intervene and ensure such security failures are not repeated.
The escape has not only exposed a significant lapse in police procedures but has also intensified concerns about public safety in the area.
