Assam: NTPC Bongaigaon Kicks Off Fourth Edition of Girl Empowerment Mission

Kokrajhar, Assam: NTPC, India’s leading power producer, has once again illuminated the path for young girls in Assam with the launch of the fourth edition of its flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) at its Bongaigaon plant in Kokrajhar district. This month-long transformative programme, which began on July 1 and will conclude on July 30, is set to empower 40 underprivileged girls, aged between 10 and 12, hailing from 12 local schools. The initiative focuses on equipping them with vital life skills, leadership training, and fostering their holistic development.

GEM 2025, a cornerstone of NTPC’s robust corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, is designed to offer an immersive experience that blends structured academic learning with avenues for creative expression. A significant emphasis is also placed on nurturing the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of every participant, ensuring a well-rounded growth trajectory.

The programme’s inauguration was graced by the esteemed presence of Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner, Masanda M Pertin, who formally launched the mission alongside Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon. In his address, Deputy Commissioner Pertin underscored the profound impact of empowering young girls, highlighting its crucial role in strengthening families and propelling communities forward. Maitra resonated with this sentiment, describing GEM as a vital bedrock for cultivating future women leaders and reiterating NTPC’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development across the nation.

Since its national inception in 2018, the Girl Empowerment Mission has already positively touched the lives of over 12,700 girls across various operational zones of NTPC. The programme continues to be a driving force in advancing gender equality and promoting sustainable community growth, particularly in underserved rural areas, thereby building a brighter future for the nation’s young girls.
